Infant Frenectomies: How I Transformed My Practice into More Than Cavities + Cleanings

The first things we do in life, eat and breathe, can be impacted by Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTs). As dentists, we can help educate parents on how TOTs can lead to breastfeeding issues as well as mouth breathing which often results in future dental maladies (malocclusion, crowding, TMD). Follow my own journey from an unknowing mommy dentist with a tongue-tied infant to now treating TOTs in my office as a very personally rewarding addition to my professional skill set.

Course objective:

  • Recognize how TOTs can impact breastfeeding and the telltale signs and symptoms in both mommies and babies.

  • Recognize how TOTs can lead to mouth breathing and its implications in common Gallerite-treated dental conditions.

  • Learn how we as dentists can use CO2 lasers to treat TOTs as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
