This webinar provides the viewer a clear examination on the materials we use in orthodontic appliances, retainers, splints and TMD appliances in particular and address the growing concern and fear relating to micro-plastics, nano-particles and corrosive elements that could lead to systemic health issues.
You’ll walk away with simple, practical guidelines to address these concerns that you can implement immediately to safeguard your patients and practice.
Course Objectives
Cite growing evidence that mechanical wear, heat and salivary enzymes can release microplastics and nanoparticles into the oral environment from a number of orthodontic and TMD appliances
Identify higher patient risk groups that you may offer alternate treatment options
Learn not to alarm patients or disrupt your practice profitability, but to adopt simple, defensible protocols
Comprehend that aligners should never be worn while eating due to absorption of pigments and lipids and becoming more porous and shedding more particles
Teach patients to clean devices with non‑abrasive methods; and replace worn, cloudy or abraded appliances promptly.
Learn how to integrate biocompatible TMD devices and retention systems such as EOCA Lab’s Infinity Titanium Fixed Lingual Bar, Atlas Titanium Removable Retainer, and Atlas TMD Titanium Device, which eliminate polymer degradation entirely.
