Growing up in Maquoketa, Iowa, Dr. Jason Schermer told his 9th grade class he wanted to be a dentist—part panic, part instinct. But the mix of a passion for science, a love for connecting with people, and a great hometown dentist made it a lasting decision. He went on to study molecular and cellular biology at Northwestern University before completing dental school at Case Western Reserve University and a GPR at the Cleveland Clinic.
His Invisalign journey began when a rep encouraged him to take the training. Eager to leave wire bending behind and help patients feel more confident in their smiles, he drove to Chicago to start. The turning point came when he met Dr. David Galler through Reingage and spent two days with a Cleveland cohort diving deep into aligner treatment. Since then, he has completed Reingage One and Two, Online Bootcamp, DCM, Smile Architecture, and is a frequent attendee at the Vegas summits.
Two major milestones in Dr. Schermer’s aligner journey have been completing the DCM program—building the confidence to speak, share, and remain humble in learning—and being part of the original Chasing Happiness Study Club cohort. That experience opened a space for vulnerability, growth, and community, helping its members become not only better dentists, but better people, spouses, and leaders. Dr. Schermer was later invited by Dr. Galler to be one of three dentists to lead a new Chasing Happiness Pod, helping others explore emotional well-being, stress management, and leadership within dentistry.
He believes the emotional health of our profession is one of its most urgent challenges, and that meaningful connection—alongside clinical growth—is essential for longevity in practice.
Integrating aligner therapy has also transformed Dr. Schermer’s clinical approach. It opened his eyes to what’s possible—not just what’s present—allowing him to plan more comprehensively and predictably. Staying engaged with innovations like Smile Architecture has helped him continue evolving both personally and professionally.
Outside the office, Dr. Schermer enjoys hiking Cleveland’s many parks, working out, and training in Taekwondo, where he earned a second-degree black belt alongside his three daughters (his youngest holds a third-degree belt). He lives in Mentor, Ohio, with his wife, Michelle—whom he met during his first year of dental school—and their three daughters.
